Project Overview
The Drip Irrigation by Community Participatory Development (CPD) Project in Pishin District, Balochistan, focused on introducing low delta crops (Pistachio and Grapes) under drip irrigation to enhance water efficiency and improve agricultural sustainability. The project emphasized farmer sensitization, mobilization, and capacity building through community meetings and training sessions. Farmers were equipped with knowledge on best agricultural practices, post-harvest handling, and agribusiness linkages to local and export markets.
The project covered land suitability assessments, soil and water testing, system design, installation, and training on system operation, fertigation, and maintenance. By leveraging community engagement and participatory development, the initiative ensured farmer buy-in and long-term adoption of modern irrigation methods.
Scope of Work:
- β Community Sensitization & Mobilization β Conducted farmer awareness sessions through community meetings.
- β Farmer Profiling & Land Assessment β Evaluated soil, water, and land suitability for drip irrigation.
- β Irrigation System Installation β Survey, design, excavation, and installation of mainlines and submainlines.
- β Installation of offtakes, laterals, drippers, and fertigation units.
- β Training & Capacity Building β Educated farmers on operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of the system.
- β Post-Harvest & Market Linkages β Connected farmers to local and export markets for pistachio and grape sales.
- β Project Monitoring & Reporting β Ensured compliance with project standards, financial tracking, and audits.
Key Impacts and Benefits:
- πΉ Sustainable Water Management β Drip irrigation improved water-use efficiency by up to 60%, addressing water scarcity.
- πΉ Higher Crop Yield & Quality β Pistachio and grape production increased due to optimized water and nutrient supply.
- πΉ Economic Upliftment β Farmers gained higher income through improved yield and access to better market opportunities.
- πΉ Capacity Building β Farmers trained in modern agricultural techniques, irrigation system maintenance, and post-harvest handling.
- πΉ Community-Driven Approach β Engaged local farmers, ensuring long-term adoption and sustainability of the irrigation system.
